Immigrants
Demographic ProfileImmigrants presently comprise 22% of the labour force and are generally younger than mainstream Calgarians, on average 25-44 years of age, and are better educated. Over half have at least one University degree. They bring talent, skills and a strong desire to work for a better life for themselves and for their children. Entrance requirements for Canadian immigration continue to be high. Most in the skilled worker class require post-secondary education, proficiency in English or French and relevant work experience to be approved to immigrate to Canada. Many of these landed immigrants wrongly believe that if Canada accepts their credentials and experience for entry, so too will employers and credentialing bodies. |
