Mature Workers
Demographic ProfileWorkers who have devoted years to a career sometimes find themselves displaced by new technology, job changes or by a boss who wants someone younger. Age discrimination in employment is prohibited. It still occurs. Between 2006-2008, the average rate of employment for age groups 45 to 64 increased by 1.7%, while 65+ went up 4%.These numbers will continue to rise because of low birthrates. Older workers bring work and life experience to a job. They have proven records of job performance, skills and solid work habits. They carry unwritten Company history with them and can pass it on to younger workers for the benefit of the business. The average age of workers in a number of occupations and professions is 45 or more. Companies are increasingly concerned about the age demographics of their employee population. Generational stereotypes are a myth that older workers often face. In today’s labour force over 60% of Baby Boomers are making use of social network technologies. |
